Gourd for mate

They talk about our mate gourds

"I managed to pass on the taste for mate to my grandchildren, English and German. They also love dulce de leche on toast between two mates.
I got two stainless steel gourds and it's pure joy. I really hope to continue drinking it with them during our next family gatherings. Thank you and see you soon."

Antonio about Stainless Steel Gourd

"After using a stainless steel gourd, I moved on to this one. Waiting 3 days to properly cure it is worth it. I'm not yet an expert at the mate well, but it's coming! Very beautiful object that I now use every day."

Gautier about the Torpedo Gourd

"Perfect, from delivery to product testing . Perfect mate cup, very aesthetic, beautiful finishes, very practical (large capacity). I recommend it."

Pierre about the Imperial Deluxe Gourd

"Superb gourd. Magnificent gourd, large capacity and so easy to clean."

Mate Calabash: Buying Guide

How to choose your mate gourd?

The mate straw and the calabash (or " mate de calabaza " in Spanish) are the two accessories used to drink mate in the traditional way.

Choosing your mate pot is quite subjective, as everyone has their own tastes. But if there are two criteria to take into account when choosing your mate glass , they are the price and the material.

Choosing your gourd according to your budget:

There are dozens of gourd models out there, but we've decided to only feature the ones we believe are the best for each price range. Prices start at around €20 (you'll always find " cheap mate gourds " for less elsewhere, but be careful about the quality...) and go up to over €100 for our high-end gourds .

  • Calabash for less than 30€ : Stainless Steel Calabash
  • Calabash between €30 and €100 : Torpedo Calabash
  • Calabash over 100€ : Imperial Calabash, Deluxe Imperial Calabash, Exotic Imperial Calabash

Choosing your gourd based on the material:

The traditional handmade mate gourd is a gourd made of squash. And while squash cups are beautiful objects, we don't recommend them for everyone.

It's important to know that a traditional gourd mate bowl requires very specific preparation and maintenance. Other types of mate cups (stainless steel, glass, ceramic, etc.) require no special treatment and are much more practical.

If you're looking for a traditional and authentic item, we recommend a pumpkin gourd. If you're looking for a practical gourd, we recommend choosing one made of stainless steel, glass, or ceramic.
