Have you recently started drinking mate and are wondering how much mate to drink per day ? Well, it depends on your consumption method and your sensitivity to caffeine.
We decipher it for you in this article.
A molecule present in many hot drinks (coffee, tea, matcha, mate, etc.), caffeine is known for its energizing effect.
But excess caffeine can cause side effects : stress, insomnia, irritability, migraines, etc.
It is currently recommended not to exceed 400mg of caffeine per day according to EFSA ( the European Food Safety Authority).
This corresponds to a different quantity of mate depending on the consumption method .
Traditionally, mate is consumed with a mate straw and a calabash . With this method of preparation, the mate has the particularity of re-infusing itself.
A calabash can be re-infused with nearly a liter of water, or about ten times.
In traditional consumption, we therefore recommend limiting its consumption to a maximum :
*These quantities include re-infusions (approximately 1 liter).
Easier to prepare than the traditional method, mate can be brewed like tea. Either with a teapot, a tea ball, or a mate infuser .
Tea, mate, and coffee have similar energizing effects. So if you're drinking your mate in a cup, like tea, we simply recommend limiting your mate consumption as you would tea or coffee .
Example: If you limit yourself to 3 cups of coffee a day, then don't drink more than 3 cups of mate.
