Just like tea or other herbal teas, mate cocido can be prepared in several ways (tea ball, teapot, filter, etc.).

1.1. How to prepare a mate cocido with a tea ball?

  2. Serve the water in a cup
  3. Fill the tea ball with yerba mate (about 5 grams)
  4. Let it steep for about 5 minutes – adjust the infusion time according to the desired strength

  2. Add the yerba mate directly to the water (about one teaspoon for 250mL of infusion)
  3. Let it steep for about 5 minutes – adjust the infusion time according to the desired strength
  4. Filter the infusion and pour the drink into another container (thermos, bottle, etc.)
  5. Enjoy!

2. Flavor your mate infusion

It is possible to make variations of the classic mate cocico by infusing the yerba mate in milk, for example.

Another option for those who want to reduce the bitterness of mate is to sweeten it by adding sugar, stevia or even honey (honey is very popular – both for cocido mate and traditional mate!).
